The East African Benefit Concert 2006 will bring together hip-hop artists from across Africa and the African Diaspora to raise awareness and funds for the East Africa famine, which currently affects more than 3.5 Million Kenyans. Nomadic Wax, a record label and production company dedicated to promoting Global Hip-Hop hand-selected the list of performers, which includes:
Chosan (Sierra Leone), KG (Kenya) Saaba Saaba (Uganda), LF (Brazil), The Foundation Movement (Puerto Rico/Liberia/Boston), Subatomic Sound System (Jamaica/NYC) and special guests.
The East African Benefit Concert is preceded by several successful events held in major cities in East Africa and in the U.S. in the past, East Africa famine benefit concerts have been supported by a breadth of organizations, including Save the Children, the Kenyan Embassy in Washington, D. C and several prominent East African entertainment organizations.
Famine has been a recurring problem in Africa due to climate change, poverty and lack of proper strategy by donors and the government. The funds raised by these concerts will go towards famine prevention efforts. Infrastructure and community education for safe water are two major concerns.
